The Supports Are Always the First to Go

From underneath a mound of debris comprised of used boards, plywood, and other remains from a previous exhibition Hall of Mirrors (2012) by Jonas Dahlberg, two voices can be heard. On one speaker in Swedish, we hear a seemingly unending list of items, repeating and multiplying, drawn from Konsthallen’s purchasing orders over the last 10 years. If the words were physical objects, they would fill four Konsthallens with their mass. And from the other, in English a narrative is spoken lamenting the lives of the disregarded structures that have supported each exhibition. What is our relationship to the role they play in our experience and where do they go after?

This piece was presented as part of the exhibition Even a Perfect Crime Leaves a Trace (2013) at Gothenburg Konsthall.
